Here’s another first for me… pickles!!! I tried my hand at making some dill spears and some bread & butter slices from the last of my garden cucumbers. It was a long process (I’ve learned now that pickle-making is more of a weekend activity than a Thursday night project) but it was cool to try. I got some dill from Mom’s herb garden and some onions, hot peppers, and sweet peppers from my vegetables to throw in the jars, too. If you’ve ever been to Toledo, you may have tried Tony Paco’s Pickles and Peppers or maybe you’ve heard about them before. They’re worth trying if you ever make it to the restaurant. (Although, I’ve noticed that my Giant Eagle carries them, too. That’s probably an Ohio thing.) Anyway, hopefully my pickles and peppers are something like theirs- or at least not gross.
I can’t tell you how they really turned out, though, because they’re supposed to sit in the jars for 8 weeks. We’ll see how long they last before someone’s curiosity gets the better of them.
