We’re starting our own springtime here.

Despite the fact that spring officially begins on Thursday, spring weather won’t arrive in Ohio for a while yet. So we’ve taken matters into our own hands. Mom has some beautiful flowers blooming inside the house to make us forget the weather outside for a little while.

This is the most exciting part! The garden babies we’re growing are really starting to take off and I just can’t wait to put these little guys in the ground.

A squash plant is making its first real leaf!

This year will be our first attempt to grow heirloom tomatoes… we’re growing the Mortgage Lifter variety along with a hybrid for canning and sauces. Hopefully, they both turn out well.

Two more first-time attempts below. We’re growing a couple kinds of sunflowers this year with one kind whose seeds are supposed to be good for snacking. One I’m really excited to try is the Florence fennel bulb. It’s one of my favorite foods but I’ve never tried growing it before. These two should be interesting.

We’re doing a couple kinds of peas this year, too.

Carolina In My Mind

Well, Chrissy finally gets her wish… I am updating my blog! I know it has been three long months since I last posted (in fact, all of winter quarter here at OSU) but now you’re in for a doozy. I am announcing some news…

The end of 2008 will bring the end of my time as an Ohio resident and an OSU employee. I will be moving to Charlotte, North Carolina at the beginning of 2009.
